ESL announced yesterday that Team Liquid have joined Ninjas in Pyjamas as first-timers to IEM Sydney, continuing to build up a strong lineup of IEM Katowice 2019 Legends for its next event.
Adding the reigning iBUYPOWER Master champions and current HLTV.org #2 ranked team stacks even more star power onto the bright list of teams that features all four losing quarter-finalists from IEM Katowice in Renegades, FaZe Clan and the abovementioned NiP alongside semi-finalists MIBR.
It will be the first sojourn down under for Team Liquid as they bring their Canadian stars Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken and Keith “NAF” Markovic and newest recruit in major champion Jacky “Stewie2K” Yip to show Australian fans the line-up who have most recently toppled undisputed world #1 team in Astralis.
Despite the power already committed to IEM Sydney, Liquid enters the event as strong contenders to take the title away from defending champions FaZe. They will need to be careful not to trip up along the way as past favourites like MIBR have in past events. They’ll have strong competition from MIBR and a resurgent Renegades but right now they stand as the tournament favourites.
Adding Liquid to the event is a win-win for all involved, excepting possibly the teams who thought themselves a real shot to win the event. Team Liquid brings the best of North America to the IEM fans and will be a great chance for the team to experience a great tournament in a first-class location. Despite their hiccup in Katowice against ENCE, Team Liquid are a world-class squad who will count themselves a real chance to win the event.
