META High School Esports has announced a two-year partnership with Adelaide-based Torrens University.
The partnership will help high school students understand what opportunities exist to them at a tertiary level from institutions like Torrens University that relate to esports. The partnership will also enhance educational and development outcomes for students.
META, which was established by Legacy Esports parent company the Adelaide Football Club, has amassed 300 school-based teams participating in this year’s competitions. The competition is aimed at helping students develop life skills and educate parents, teachers, and governments about esports.
META commissioner Woody Wu commented that the partnership is “another great step for grassroots esports.
“It shows that there is room and capacity for a region like Oceania to support not just the pro tier esports but also the community and grassroots, which is one of the most important pillars for esports in the long term.”

Torrens University Vice-Chancellor Justin Beilby highlighted that the META program and esports will help create strong ties to the university’s degrees.
“It will also create strong ties to more than 20 undergraduate and postgraduate programs including Game Art, Game Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Software Engineering, UX & Web Design and Digital Media Design.”
Torrens University has become the fifth university in Australia to offer a pathway into esports. The Queensland University of Technology has been offering scholarships to their OCS team, the University of Queensland and UTS both field teams in the OCS, and Monash University have also entered a partnership with Order to develop a talent pathway across multiple games.
“We are looking forward to building a long-lasting relationship with META and its current and future student gamers,” Beilby said.
