Howdy all, and welcome to Snowball Esports’ weekly OPL Power Rankings. These will be hot off the press each Monday, serving only the hottest takes fresh out of the oven that was the last week’s games. Our panel includes our three writers: Reece, Andrew and Callum, our wonderful designer Swifty, and former SIN Gaming coach Bencel.
Let’s see how the teams shake out now that we’ve seen all the teams go once around the rift! This week, we feature a brief rundown on some of our picks from our pundits! Check that out, along with a more mobile-friendly text list of rankings underneath the main icon-based list.
A quick note on power rankings: Power Rankings are different to how one would traditionally rank teams. Normal rankings are a bit more based on ability than results. In a traditional ranking if one team beat another you could still rank them lower if you thought they were still worse than the team they beat. Power Rankings are by definition recency-biased and results-focused and are more of a snapshot of how a team looks right now than how they have looked throughout the year or how they project overall. A bad loss may see a team drop below a team most would see them as being better than. A string of losses can see a team tumble down the rankings.

DW / CHF / ORD / AV / LGC / TTC / BMR / SIN
Avant Gaming have made a massive statement with their 2-0 over legacy, however they’ll need to find consistency against the teams above them to make any further progress.
Tectonic look very impressive early but can’t seem to put the finishing touches on their work, against weaker sides tectonic maybe able to hold these leads.

For my money there are four groups. The Dire Wolves group, the Chiefs Group, and then two groups of three. Within those last two groups, I think that they’re pretty interchangeable – except that with this loss Legacy are for now Definitely Fifth. I’ve put ORD above AV purely based on the 6-0. Assuming equal results, AV have played better but until then ORDER has my vote. The bottom three are more volatile. It’s weird to bump SIN up after a loss but I was so spectacularly let down by Bombers that i’ve dropped them to 8th and simply slid the other two up one. I don’t mind what order anyone has them in, I think you can make an argument for any iteration of those three.

The top five remain unchanged after a week of mostly expected results, except for AV vs LGC. Remaining at the top we have DW, ORD and CHF where we have seen Shernfire strengthening the number one-ranked Wolves. ORD has seemed to have finally found some strong footing in the OPL. And we have CHF rounding out the top 3, CHF while having their struggles against a surging TTC remains in 3rd place. As for the bottom after another week of 0-2’s for these teams, TTC jumps to 6th after another week of showing both promise and resistance not willing to go down lightly. BMR falls to 7th after Looch and Sleeping return to the roster, but with little resistance over the last 2 weeks it’s difficult to place them above TTC. SIN land in 8th after another tough week, and despite trying to place players on comfort will be looking to prove a point this week against BMR.

The top 4 really solidified themselves this week, over the other 4 teams. I would say Dire Wolves are the clear best team. Meanwhile 2-4 is fairly interchangeable until we have more information from the matches they play against each other. My current placement is just based on how cleanly they are closing out games against weaker competition. Similarly I would say the exact same thing about 5-8 as I would about 2-4.
