Legacy’s Peter “Bl1tz” Athanasatos was kind enough to speak with me after a tough 2-0 loss in the eXTREMESLAND AUNZ Qualifier Semi Final about the match and the challenge of chasing the top 4.
I’m here with Blt1z from Legacy Esports’ Counter-Strike team after a tight 2-0 loss to The Chiefs. What’s the feeling like in the team after the series?
Bl1tz: We haven’t had too much of a chance to talk yet, but we’re pretty disappointed to go out zero to two. But we’ll go away and have a look at the demos, see what happened. And we know we’ll get better.
It seems that there’s a top tier of teams (In AUNZ) and then there’s the rest. You guys have fairly well established yourselves as the best of the rest. You recently took the map off of – and please forgive me if my memory fails me – Tainted Minds and then you’ve pushed Chiefs to overtime in map 2 here. Do you think you’re making progress in catching these top tier teams? Is it slow but steady? How do you feel about that sort of progress?
Bl1tz: I think it’s slow and steady, but we’re approaching top 4. And that the issue that the top 4 has over us is that they have more experience that in clutch moments – not so much clutching a round, but in the important moments they seem to know how to come out slightly ahead. I wouldn’t say we’re too far off – it’s just parts of our game that need polishing so that we’re able to take maps off them, not just once in a while.
Sure. So I don’t want to dwell too much on the setup to this but after you had a moment in checkers that didn’t quite go your way you and Sterling combined to take a very important round to put you to 14. Do you think that was a really important moment to take – not just in the context of the match overall but given that you’d made the mistake to get yourself back into the match?
Bl1tz: I think what happened is – I heard them boosting vent and then I just completely whiffed on two of them. So when I got the kills in mid – I mean, in Counter-Strike if you’re going to get angry at yourself over whiffing, then you’re not going to get very far, you know? So, I whiffed. You reset after it, and you move on to make up for it afterwards. So I felt good whether I made up for it or not. But you can’t dwell over whiffing.
So last one and i’ll let you get back to your team. The last round where Sterling hit one shot and the second through the smoke to clutch it out for overtime. What was the feeling like? There were a couple of pop-offs on stage including Mr. Conky himself went nuts.
Bl1tz: Yeah. That was really hype. You know in a 1v2 it’s really good to win that for the team so he did well really on that round.
Thanks so much for your time. Bad luck with the match and best of luck in your next tournament.
Bl1tz: Thanks.
