Riot Games Oceania has announced Week 9 of the Oceanic Pro League will be the Recall & Restore round, with league organisers hoping to put the spotlight on the need for a “healthy balance” between gaming and other activities that “enrich our lives”.
With one in four young people experiencing a mental health issue in their lives, it’s now more important than ever to begin the education around mental health and creating good habits. In an effort to combat the rise of mental health in young gamers, Riot Games have worked with Headspace in Australia and Le Va in New Zealand to create useful resources for the Oceanic community, with the aim to “better understand how healthy habits can bring about improvements in mental health and wellbeing”.

Riot have already begun spreading the message of respecting and focusing on mental health with a series of interviews with OPL players on how they use their down time, as well as the importance of creating a healthy, balanced daily schedule. The league organisers have developed a series of new resources with both Headspace and Le Va, to “help you people enjoy all that gaming has to offer”.
The resources already available have been developed to help players from all levels of skills understand the impacts that gaming can have on their mental health. They also highlight the importance of finding balance to maintain a healthy mind and create some healthy habits.
“Learn With League is a program designed to bring the learning benefits of League of Legends into the lives of young people across Oceania; through schools, community groups and their parents,” Riot Community Manager Ivan Davies said of the initiative.
“We believe that gaming can teach young people new skills to live life in a positive and meaningful way, ready to cope with life’s changes and challenges.”
With the spotlight growing brighter on high school esports, it’s becoming increasingly important to highlight that gaming of all kinds can be enjoyed in a healthy and balanced way. These resources will be able to provide the tools to all ages to encourage the players to maintain this balance. There are also guides available to share with your friends and family, to help educate them on ways to support a healthy and balanced gaming routine.
Round 9 of the OPL this Friday March 15 and Saturday March 16 has a special focus on the new ‘Recall and Restore’ resources that are available to the Oceanic League of Legends Community. Get involved from 4pm AEDT at oce.lolesports.com.
